UNITY 🌈
- Category: TILE Designathon 2021
- Project Date: March 2021
- Challenge:
- How might we educate people on activism?
- How do we bring it into everyday life in digestible chunks?
- How might we support marginalized communities?
- Project:
- Prototype
- Presentation Slides
- Video Demonstration
Summary
- Given the prompts above, our team of designers combined our design thinking skills and used
wireframing,
prototyping, and user research to design an app in Figma that would enable the community to be
envolved
in activism, social issues, and create a greater sense of community amongst marginalized communities.
Process
- The process our team followed was to create first brainstorm our ideas as to how a user may want to
be presented with information about activism as well as conduct some research to see how the community
is currently engaging with such social issues. From our research, we began to list out all the
features
that we want to have in the app in order to solve the user's need. We developed a series of flowcharts
to ensure we understood the user interaction with the app based off a user persona, created a series
of
mockups, and began to wireframe and design the final product.
Key Learnings
- how to use Figma to develop a solution to solve a user need
based off research
- how to work on a tight schedule while delgating time and tasks
effectively
- how to select and use effective colour scheming for
consistency and visual appeal
- how to use intuitive icon design to convey messages to users
in regards to navigation
- how to brainstorm quickly and communicate as part of a team
Improvements
- focus on the most viable product; there were a lot of features
but no focus on the apps' most fundamental element
- need to be more specific with the user need and target how the
app aims to solve that problem
- consistency on theming and UI components; screens flip between
dark, and light and could be more user friendly if designs were consistent
